Teeth are an essential part of our body. Apart from eating, teeth are necessary for speech and forming the structure of the face. Baby teeth are crucial as they play a vital role in speech development. Most of the sounds are produced when our tongue and lips interact with our teeth. When kids are learning to speak, the proper pronunciation is important. That’s why it is essential that kids have properly developed teeth.

7 Tips to Keep Your Kid’s Teeth Healthy

Taking good care of teeth is necessary. Mostly if we talk about baby teeth or deciduous teeth, they demand extra care to be taken. Here are a few things that all parents must know about baby teeth to take good care of their kid’s teeth.

1.   Babies Develop Teeth between 6 and 12 Months

At what age will the first tooth of your baby appear? Well, it varies from kids to kids. For some babies, you may see tooth erupting after the first six months, while others may not have any teeth even on their first birthday.

Usually, after three months, babies develop increased saliva and start putting their hands in their mouth. Parents wonder that their kids are probably developing teeth, but the first tooth usually appears after six months.

The first teeth that appear are always the lower front teeth, i.e., the lower central incisors. Almost all children develop all their baby teeth by the age of 3.

2.   Add Fluoride to Your Kid’s Diet when he turns six months of age.

As your baby starts developing teeth, parents must add fluoride to their kid’s diet. Fluoride is necessary for the development and growth of teeth. It helps in preventing tooth decay by hardening the enamel of teeth.

3.   Brush Your Kid’s Teeth Regularly

Once your child starts developing a tooth, you should brush his teeth at least two times a day using fluoride toothpaste. Never skip brushing your kid’s teeth after the last food or drink of the day. Also, never put your baby to bed with a bottle because it can lead to tooth decay.

4.   Get an Appointment when the First Tooth Appears

When the first tooth appears, get a dental appointment and ask the dentist to carefully examine your kid’s tooth. Get this done by his first birthday. A pediatric dentist will thoroughly inspect your kid’s tooth and ensure that all teeth are developing normally. He will also make sure that there are no dental problems in the kid. The dentist will also give proper advice on hygiene.

In addition to that, he may also suggest some dental lab equipment that your kid may need at an early stage.

5.   Avoid Using Teeth Tablets

Avoid using teeth tablets that contain the plant poison belladonna and gels with benzocaine. These tablets may numb your kid’s pain but are not suitable for the kid’s overall health. FDA has issued warnings owing to its potential side effects.

Furthermore, avoid using amber teething necklaces as well. These necklaces are placed around the kid’s neck to provide support, but they enhance the risk of hazards.

6.   Baby Teeth Fall Out at the Age of 6

Baby teeth usually start falling out naturally when your kid reaches the age of six. By his ninth birthday, your kid usually has 12 permanent teeth. At the age of 12, all milk teeth fall out.

7.   Educate Your Child on the Importance of Dental Health

As your child ages, educate him regarding the importance of dental health. Make them realize the importance of protecting their teeth. If they are habitual of playing sports, make them realize the importance of using mouth guards, especially for contact sports.

Similarly, wearing helmets should be made necessary for sports like skateboard, baseball, and skiing. Also, educate your kids to play safely with their friends.

Final Remarks

Apart from maintaining a wonderful smile, keeping your teeth healthy and free from oral diseases is necessary. If you want to make sure that your child eats healthy, talks better, and lives a confident life, make sure that you follow the tips discussed above. Healthy teeth will help your kid to live a healthy life.
